Kesorn and John had known each other for several years, before they decided to marry in Kesorn's home village of Sritoy in North Thailand. The wedding ceremony was performed by the village headman with most of the community involved in celebrating the wedding. Half the villagers adopted John (an Australian) and represented his interests in the wedding.
